SMIV
was originally established as a crafts business in 1989 in
Klenovnik. In 1991 it was turned into a limited liability
company, SMIV d.o.o.. The founder of the company is Ivan
Smontara who acquired entrepreneurial skills through his
years-long work experience in Germany. The company began
its production activities in Klenovnik in readapted commercial
facilities and a garage. The production output was intended
for Slovenian companies Triglav, Konfekcija Kranj and Angora.
New production facilities and the company’s administration
building were built in Ivanec in 1995. The production was moved
to new facilities in 1996.
SMIV is today one of the biggest manufacturers of knitwear
in Croatia with 120 employees. The company manufactures knitwear
for world-renowned brands such as Benetton, Stefanel, Maxfashion
and Carlo Caluci.
The company has an authorized shipping and handling service.
In addition to textile production, the company penetrated the
tourism market segment in 2002 as well. It offers accommodation
services in a tourist facility with 12 apartments for rent
situated on the Adriatic coast, in Plovile near Novi Vinodolski.
